When it comes to technology planning for your home the most important thing is to wire correctly as most homes are only wired once every thirty years. The key elements when wiring today include:

1. Don’t count on wireless technologies as a solution. Instead, plan on having wiring in all the normal locations and in some extra cabinets and closets so that you can better take advantage of new technologies as they become available.
2. Run spare wires to the important locations.
3. Install conduits to the street so new services can easily be brought into the home.
4. Run internet network cables to every room, and to every mechanical system. Just because they don’t use the internet today, it doesn’t mean they won’t in a few years.
