Homeowners
Introduction Tarr Technology Consulting designs, engineers, installs and maintains technology systems in private homes. We use our knowledge and objectivity to determine the best solutions that balance form, function and cost. Typically our clients want high-quality stereos, televisions, computers, telephones, lighting, security and home automation systems, but have previously been sold costly equipment that is too complicated to use or they don’t need. As a result, they are too frustrated to use what they end up with - we prevent that. As pragmatic technologists, we select the appropriate equipment based on our clients’ technical sophistication, budget, and needs. The Process We work with the architect and client from the very beginning of the design process to determine the client’s needs by educating them about what is currently available and what technology is emerging. This allows us to create the plans necessary to determine a budget for the project, including bid documents for wiring, electrical loads, HVAC, and other special requirements that need upfront cost analysis. In addition we create a budget for the actual equipment, but don’t recommend purchasing anything until six weeks before move-in for the best pricing and newest models. The result is a complete picture of the costs involved at the very beginning of the project. As design continues, we coordinate and plan extensively with the architect, contractor, and decorator to plan all aspects of the home’s technology. This includes detailed drawings and elevations of all equipment locations, wiring diagrams, television viewing angles, and cabinet design to conceal equipment. Before the home is built, we have a complete set of plans and specifications detailing integration, operation, and physical location of each system. During construction we double-check all of the contractor’s work to make sure that wiring has been properly installed and located before the walls are closed. Additionally, we provide the client with a complete set of technical plans detailing how everything in the home is designed, wired, and connected. This allows for easy upgrades and maintenance. For systems that require specialty vendors, such as security or electrical conditioning and protection, we select and manage the firms performing the work to make sure it is integrated with everything else in the home. Typically this is managed by the architect or contractor, but this does not allow for the best integration with the rest of the home. After installation, we maintain the systems in the home. This includes regular on-site visits to the home, and remote maintenance over the Internet, to make sure everything is running properly. We are always available for emergency service calls in New York City, the Hamptons, and Westchester. Additionally, every six months we offer a technology update and review for each client, describing new products and possible upgrades for their home. What makes us different / About Us Tarr Technology Consulting was founded by Jeff Tarr, a top technologist with over 15 years of experience in computer programming and networking, telephone and internet services, and high-end electronics, including A/V systems, lighting and gadgets.
